The Red City Hall (Rotes Rathaus) in Berlin is the historical namesake for the new subway station of the U5 line, which connects the main station as well as the government district to the Berlin subway system. The underground station, designed by the Berlin-based architectural studio Collignon Architektur und Design, opened in December 2020 after more than ten years of construction and impresses with its open, clear architecture. It is turned into a space of flexibility, safety and movement by the integrated lighting concept of Licht Kunst Licht.
