A lighting concept for smart sustainability

The creative lighting strategy transformed original limitations in the existing building into new design possibilities. With a minimalist budget and the existing infrastructure, the hotel’s lighting was reinterpreted: existing decorative luminaires were refurbished, modern LED solutions were integrated and new lighting elements were specifically placed to create atmosphere – without any major structural interventions. Technical lighting solutions followed the same imaginative approach: modern LED downlights were integrated into existing ceiling cut-outs using special adaptation rings, avoiding costly infrastructural changes.

Public areas such as the conservatory, which serves as a breakfast room, and the fitness area emphasise the creativity of the lighting designers in making the most of what is available. In the conservatory, a new track system with strategically placed curtains creates flexibility and atmosphere. In the fitness area, the existing grid has been replaced with luminous spheres that combine functionality with TRIBE’s bold and unconventional design approach.

The Social Hub: a cultural centrepiece

One of the most exciting areas of TRIBE Düsseldorf is the Social Hub, which combines co-working and leisure in a dynamic, multifunctional space. The centrepiece – known as the ‘longest gaming table in the world’ – is inspired by Düsseldorf’s old town and the legendary ‘longest bar in the world’. The playful and eclectic mix of decorative lights and furniture integrates local culture directly into the hotel’s communal area and establishes it as a central meeting point for guests and locals alike.

Hotel rooms with character

In the guest rooms, creativity was born out of restrictions. As new cabling was ruled out, the lighting was integrated into the furniture: indirect lighting accents behind the bedheads bathe the ceiling and room in a soft light. In addition to the individual reading lamps, pendant lights above the bedside tables, which are fed by clever cable routing behind the furniture, provide targeted light. The result is a multi-layered and atmospheric environment that harmonises comfort and style.

Each room is characterised by its own colour accent from a curated palette. From the outside, this creates an exciting interplay of light and coloured surfaces – an urban work of art that subtly accentuates the hotel’s identity.

TRIBE Düsseldorf is more than just a hotel – it is a manifesto for affordable sophistication, where creativity flourishes within given boundaries and design becomes an experience for all. With its clever use of space, light and narrative, it is predestined to become a new centre of attraction for a young generation of travellers and locals.
