Food Market Kantini
Kantini Berlin – A New Highlight Berlin’s Gastronomy Scene
“This is where Berlin eats” has been the motto since mid-January 2018 of Bikini Berlin’s top floor, located between the Zoo and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. After one year of construction, the food market Kantini opened its doors and has thrilled foodies, design, and architecture enthusiasts alike. The new gastronomic hot spot builds on the hip lifestyle of the concept shopping mall Bikini Berlin and, with its innovative design concept, combines humor and cheerfulness with a casual Berlin charm.
The interior designers from Studio Aisslinger, headed by designer Werner Aisslinger, planned the 1,800 sqm area of the Kantini food market creating a refreshing lifestyle landscape with unusual material combinations and colorful installations. Various seating options – from sofa benches to sitting steps and swings – invite guests of all ages to linger. The absolute highlight of the food market is the light-flooded loggia with an 18-meter-long panoramic window and a direct view of Berlin Zoo’s bird aviary.
The carefully coordinated lighting concept supports in accentuating the themed environment with a selection of colorful decorative luminaires and a flexible system of spotlights mounted on lighting tracks. While the decorative lights act as attractive eye catchers, both as individual objects or “a swarm of luminaires”, the black LED track spotlights form a functional light layer under the deliberately restless ceiling. With their various beam angles, they provide both adequate general lighting as well as highlighting for individual surfaces and objects.
Thanks to smooth dimming of the LEDs, the illuminance or brightness levels can meet the needs of different usage scenarios, e.g. for daytime operation or events. The user can choose from five pre-programmed light scenes and recall them as needed.
The Kantini unites a colorful mix of 13 international restaurants from ten different countries and meets the zeitgeist of healthy nutrition, sustainable production and varied delights. The maintained high number of guests shows that Berlin has gained a new culinary destination with the Kantini food market.
